‘Rhymes with Taco’I painted this in February(?) and I have no idea when or even if I’ll ever finish it, so yeah…I’ll just call it a 1 hour-ish speed painting for now. Maybe some night when I can’t sleep I’ll work on it again. *shrugs*

‘2 Minute Neon Ghost Animals’Two minute poses drawn in retina-burning blue pencil on red construction paper. Speed and ridiculous colour choices make the right hemisphere of my brain happy. C:Also, any time I remember to use this gesture drawing website I like to pass the link along. It’s a fantastic resource. :DFigure & Gesture Drawing Tool

‘Cap (speedy#5)’I went over my two hour time limit again…it was a tricky pose/angle. Hideous background is hideous.ALL the speedies!

‘Prince Hal (speedy #3)’I warned you there would be more. XD This was probably a bit too ambitious for my two hour time limit, but it turned out alright considering. Maybe I’ll develop it further when my attention span decides to come back. C:ALL the speedies!

‘Prince Hal (speedy #1)’It was time to make more speed paintings! And as you can probably tell, I recently watched The Hollow Crown (Henry IV parts 1 & 2). :)I try to keep my time (per painting) around 2 hours but I went a bit longer on this because it was my first time painting a speedy using Paint Tool Sai.More speedies. :D

Dean Winchester speedies
Captain America speedies

Here are my Captain America speed paintings from last September. The DVD wasn’t out yet so the refs I used were screen captures from a camcorder version of the movie. In hindsight, not having high definition refs worked in my favour because then I had no choice but to focus on proportion and lighting instead of details. :)

Side note: Before I started practicing with speedies last year I despised painting portraits…now I find portraits very relaxing and enjoyable. <3 #ConqueringMyArtProblems

I’m feeling Dean-ish, so here are some speedies I painted last summer. C:

If you want to learn how to paint digitally then I highly recommend starting with speed paintings. It forces you to think differently and to focus on proportion and lighting instead of detail. I learned so much more from doing ten 2 hour paintings than I ever did from one 20 hour painting. It changed my art for the better.
